How does a heat pump and heating system work?

August 07 18:27 2019

A heat pump is a device whose task is to transfer heat from a cold place to a warm place. The heat pump shifts the temperature of the heating medium that is used to move the heat as heat cannot be transported from cold to hot.

As it saves both energy, money and the environment, the heat pump is usually a good investment. If you have a house that is electrically heated or oil-heated and already uses water-based heat, you will receive the greatest savings on investing in a heat pump.

Under optimum conditions, a good heat pump can reach a heating factor of 6.0. This means that the heat pump can provide 600 W of heat to a room by using 100 W of electrical energy. A ground heat pump that normally returns four times as much energy as it uses.

During really cold days or if the heating system does not work, most heating systems that use heat pumps are supplemented with an electric heater.

In Sweden, there is an area called Småland that is associated with heat pumps, where 3 different brands are manufactured Nibe, CTC and IVT heat pumps. In Swedish, the heat pump is called värmepump. These brands are optimized for the Nordic climate

How does a heat pump work?

The heat pump works by allowing its heating medium or refrigerant, which is in gaseous form, to be heated by a cold ambient to a temperature below the cold ambient temperature. A pump then pumps up the pressure in the subsequent part of the heat pump and to the same degree as the pressure increases, the temperature also increases. This is similar to how a bicycle pump gets hot when you pump air into the tire. When the temperature of the heat pump has risen so that it is higher than the temperature of the space to be heated, the heat medium of the heat pump can supply heat to the room. This also causes the heating medium to cool slightly. When the heating medium is cooled it expands to cool down. Then it can be heated again by the cold environment.

What is the difference between air conditioning and a heat pump?

The difference between a heat pump and air conditioning is very small. You can say that the heat pump by moving the heat from the warm room to the roughly warm environment works backwards. But most air heat pumps can work both as a heat pump and air conditioning

How well does a heat pump work?

Heat pumps from a quality brand usually work very well and keep what is promised.
