McKees Rocks, PA – May 21, 2020 – Wyland Law Group recently announced that courts in Pennsylvania have resumed limited operations. Pennsylvania issued a statewide judicial emergency on March 16, 2020. Although that emergency has been extended to June 1, 2020, local courts have been authorized to resume certain operations that were suspended when the judicial emergency was declared.
Wyland Law Group, a Pittsburgh criminal defense firm, announced that Pennsylvania’s regional president judges have been granted discretion regarding which of their court operations will resume. In the interest of public health, there are strict limitations in place for in-person proceedings. Wyland Law Group shared that, if the court feels that restrictions should be extended beyond June 1, 2020, it must provide the Supreme Court with reasons for doing so. According to Wyland Law Group, the court’s goal is to move beyond emergency functions to a wider range of court proceedings.
Wyland Law Group stated that civil and criminal trials in Pittsburgh that require the presence of a jury are still on hold and will be rescheduled for a future date. Wyland Law Group also pointed out that, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in Pennsylvania, evictions are prohibited until May 11, 2020. Wyland Law Group stressed that this is a challenging time for the Pennsylvania court system, and for the state as a whole, but the firm will continue to fight for the rights of Pennsylvanians.
