The novel also draws from Stalder’s own experience growing up in a high-control religious environment and later questioning inherited beliefs through philosophy and comparative religion. He has described one of his hopes for Artificial Messiah as creating “a warm hug for people with religious trauma,” while encouraging readers to ask difficult questions about obedience, moral authority, technology, and self-worth.

About the Author
J.P.S. Stalder is a California native who relocated to the Kansas City area in 2021. A lifelong writer and avid reader, his interests in language, people, culture, philosophy, rhetoric, and political thought led him to earn a degree focused on rhetoric and political science. For more than twenty years, he has worked in the government sector, specializing in grant writing, proposal development, and award administration.
Following the death of his father in January 2023, Stalder rededicated himself to fiction writing with a renewed commitment to making meaningful use of life’s limited time and creating work that could endure for his daughter and family.
