Moncks Corner, SC – October 21, 2026 – Daniel Cornell, CEO and Board Member of Legacy Tow Group, is bringing lessons from more than two decades in investment banking into his leadership role in the towing and transportation industry. After a career advising companies on acquisitions, financing, and business growth, Cornell is placing greater attention on the people and operational decisions that determine how businesses perform over time.
Having worked with companies across aerospace, defence, industrial services, and transportation, Cornell has seen how different management teams approach challenges. His experience has shaped his belief that business growth requires more than financial planning, particularly when companies are navigating acquisitions, leadership changes, and operational demands.
“Throughout my banking career, I worked with companies that had strong financial performance but very different approaches to leadership,” said Cornell. “You learn that the people running a business and the decisions they make every day have a major influence on what happens next.”
From Investment Banking to Operational Leadership
Before joining Legacy Tow Group, Cornell held senior positions at several major financial institutions, including Jefferies, SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, and Truist Securities.
At Jefferies, he led the Washington, D.C. office, helping improve its financial performance and strengthen its position in aerospace, defence, and government services investment banking.
He later served as Head of Industrials and Services Investment Banking at Truist Securities, leading a team responsible for advising companies across numerous industrial and service sectors. During his tenure, the practice managed a lending portfolio exceeding $30 billion in aggregate commitments and tripled its capital markets revenue over three years.
Across his 25-year investment banking career, Cornell participated in more than 125 merger and acquisition transactions and over 100 capital-raising transactions.
Those experiences provided extensive exposure to different business models, management structures, and acquisition strategies. However, his transition into the towing industry introduced a more direct set of responsibilities.
“When you’re advising a company, you’re helping leadership evaluate decisions and understand their options,” Cornell explained. “When you’re operating a business, you’re responsible for making those decisions work. That changes how you think about everything from staffing to customer service.”
Why Mentorship Matters in Business Leadership
As Daniel Cornell’s career progressed, his responsibilities increasingly involved developing senior bankers, building teams, and creating opportunities for younger professionals.
His experience leading large investment banking practices reinforced the importance of giving employees the knowledge and confidence to take on greater responsibilities.
That perspective remains relevant in the towing industry, where experienced operators, dispatchers, drivers, and managers play important roles in maintaining dependable service.
For Cornell, effective leadership includes understanding what employees need to perform their jobs and recognising the practical knowledge they bring to an organization.
“One of the things I’ve learned is that leadership becomes less about what you can accomplish individually and more about what you can help other people accomplish,” Cornell said. “You need capable people around you, and you need to give them the opportunity to contribute.”
Cornell believes those lessons apply across industries, even when the day-to-day work looks very different.
Applying Financial Experience to the Towing Industry
In his current position at Legacy Tow Group, Cornell works within a sector where business performance depends on the ability to respond to customers, coordinate equipment, and manage unpredictable service demands.
His association with Elite Towing also reflects his transition from financial advisory work into the practical responsibilities of the towing business.
While financial analysis and acquisition experience remain relevant to his work, Cornell’s responsibilities now extend into the operational side of business leadership.
He views this as an opportunity to combine the broader perspective developed during his investment banking career with the practical knowledge of people working directly in the industry.
“Every industry has its own challenges, and you have to respect the people who understand those challenges firsthand,” said Cornell. “My background gives me one perspective, but there is always something to learn from the people who are doing the work every day.”
Continuing a Commitment to Giving Back
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Cornell has maintained an interest in charitable giving and community involvement.
He has supported the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, a national organization that provides assistance to families of fallen military personnel. He has also supported the Waddell Marine Cultural Center in South Carolina, which focuses on marine conservation and sustainable fishing practices.
An avid offshore fisherman and boating enthusiast, Cornell has a personal connection to the importance of protecting marine resources.
His involvement with charitable organizations reflects an interest in contributing beyond his professional career, particularly to causes supporting military families and conservation.
As he continues his work at Legacy Tow Group, Cornell’s career illustrates how experience gained in financial services can be applied to operational leadership. His focus on mentorship, experienced teams, and learning from people across different industries remains central to his approach.
